BHS TREC Winter Series,

The Winter
Series is an exciting new competition, focusing on the Control of Paces and PTV
obstacle phases of BHS TREC (formerly known as Le Trec). An ideal introduction
for anyone who would enjoy a taste of this friendly sport, and a good training
ground for young or inexperienced horses and ponies, this will give you
something new to try before springtime!

The
competition consists of two phases:
Control of Paces or
Gaits (CG)
This will
take place around the outside track of the school over 50m to 150m.
PTV Obstacles
A
simple course of TEN obstacles, simulated to represent those you might meet out
hacking, to test riding skills, and the training and handiness of your horse or
pony will be laid out in such a way to enable you to move on to from the
Control of Paces.
Formal riding
clothes are not required (no jackets or plaiting up) as long as your gear is
safe and comfortable and your mount wears its usual tack. BHS TREC rules apply.
CLASSES:
1. OPEN - Open to any rider, any age, on any suitable horse/pony.
2.NEWCOMERS -Restricted to riders that have NOT taken part in
more than ONE full BHS TREC
competition (i.e. all 3 phases), and must not to have won a winter series
Open or Newcomers class before
1st Oct 08. Rider any age, on any suitable
horse/pony.

given out on Friday before between 7.00pm and 9.00pm by
phoning Lucy on Tel no: 01208 821388 or they will be published

WINTER
SERIES- EXTRA PRIZES: A rankings table of best percentage scores (as per
dressage) will be maintained and published on BHS website for a). Newcomers and
b) Open competitors. At the end of series, the overall winner in each section
will receive a trophy from the BHS, and the Top 10 placed riders will receive
prizes. NB. A competitor will only be listed once (per horse/pony) on the
rankings table, as per their highest percentage result.
EXTRAENTRIES / SUBSCRIPTIONS CAN BE SENT TO THE
ABOVE ADDRESS ON A PLAIN PIECE OF PAPER, PROVIDED ALL THE CONTACT INFORMATION
AS REQUIRED ABOVE IS INCLUDED.
The winner of
each class will receive a signed copy of Kelly Marks' new book "Perfect
Partners"
Rosettes to 6th
place in each class, + special awards for the highest unplaced senior &
junior CTG members in each class.
The placings are decided
with the rider gaining the highest combined score from the PTV and Control of
Paces phases taking the first prize. In the event of equality the highest score
from PTV will take precedence. Individual score sheets will be given out
approximately 1 hour after the end of each class. .
RULES:
Rules as per the current
BHS TREC Rulebook (Third edition-2005), and general rules detailed below and
elsewhere in this schedule.
BHS TREC Rulebook is
available at £5.00 incl. P&P from the Competitions Office, The British

Cheques payable to B.H.S.
1. Competition
is open to all horses and ponies providing that they are a minimum of 4yrs old
in 2008 (i.e. horse born in 2004 may compete in 2008)
2. Riders any
age, juniors may ride horses and seniors may ride ponies.
3. No rider will
be permitted to start any phase of the event unless wearing a hard hat, which
meets current standard recommended by the BHS (PAS 015, EN 1384 or ASTMF 1163
and bearing kite mark or SEI).
4. Riders may
choose to wear a body protector during any phase of the competition.If
worn, Beta 3 standard is strongly recommended.
5.Riders must
wear suitable riding footwear.
6. Standing
Martingales and other fixed reins are forbidden. If a running martingale is
used, horse must be led from headcollar and leadrope for led PTV obstacles.
7. Whips must
not exceed 75cms. Spurs, if worn, must be rounded, not exceeding 3.5cms in
length and pointed downwards.
8. The judges
and officials decision is final and must be complied with at all times.
Elimination may result for any of the following reasons: Excessive use of whip,
Abusive language, Dangerous riding, Uncorrected error on PTV
course
HEALTH AND SAFETY
The event manager/organiser has taken
all reasonable precautions to ensure the health and safety of everyone present.
For these measures to be effective, everyone must take all reasonable
precautions to avoid and prevent accidents occurring and must obey the
instructions of the officials and stewards on the day.
Trained First Aiders will be present at the
event and should be summoned through an official in the event of an accident.
The event manager/organiser will have contact telephone numbers foremergency
veterinary and farriery service.
Please take care to
safeguard valuable tack and possessions. Young children must be supervised at
all times. Neither the event manager/organiser nor the land/course owners can
accept responsibility for loss or injury to persons or animals howsoever
caused.

Cornwall Trec by the Tuesday before the event
